OSVC LogoThe Ordnance Survey has had an outdoor volleyball league for a good number of years. Thanks to a few eager die-hards (and actually winning something in another outdoor tournament) an idea was mooted to create a volleyball club ‘good and proper’ and enter into the local indoor league.

Assisted by an enthusiastic Coach who hopes his experience in the National League will rub off on his clubmates, OSVC completed their first indoor season last year (2006-2007).

We have gained much kudos within the local league for our energetic and sometimes wince-inducing gung-ho approach to court play. Both the men’s and the mixed teams improved steadily throughout the season and both ended their first indoor season stealing one set each off the opposing team.

We have now developed enough to compete mid and lower table in the leagues and have entered a Ladies team for the first time last season.

The Coach is now once again drafting a cunning plan for this forthcoming indoor season and is praying that the Chairman does not get eaten by sharks in Oz, and that the Treasurer keeps his feet on the ground and his face off it, as he tries out the Coach’s new setting mantra ‘I’ve got to want to volley/set every ball’. The rest of the club is progressing well and may well prove to be a formidable opponent to future opposition in the local league.

For now, the grass court beckons, and afterwards… so does the pub.
