OSVC Mixed B took on Sleepless Knights and Roke Manor on Monday 24th May. OSVC had to win both matches to take 3rd spot in the final mixed league table.
Up first was OSVC v Sleepless Knights. On court for OSVC were Jim and Hazel setting, James and Slawek through middle and Kasia and Iza through the outside. First set nerves took over with OSVC going down early, losing 10:21. OSVC looked much better in the 2nd set with some much improved passing back court, which enabled the setters to get some good balls in to the hitters. Slawek’s blocking and hitting again proved vital in the 2nd set which we held to 20:20 before finally losing out 22:20 to lose the game.
The only change for OSVC v Roke Manor was the the introduction of Jamie through middle to replace James. Roke started serving well, gaining a few points advantage but OSVC came back well until the final 3rd of the set, when Roke ran away with a final push to take the set 21:15. Unfortunately, play didn’t go OSVC’s way in the 2nd set with only a few good transitions of play. Final score 10:21. Roke win 2:0.
Not the best end to the season but some fantastic play in previous matches has secured a mid table spot for our first attempt as a team playing together in the mixed league. With some decent practice through the summer and early next winter before the mixed season starts again, OSVC should have a better shot at winning a few more matches. Well done to everyone that played for OSVC Mixed B.
Let’s look forward to an even better season next year.
James (OSVC Mixed B Capt.)
