On Monday night (19th April) OS X played their last 2 games of Div 2 in SADVA against Winchester Uni and Roke A.
Winchester Uni was the first opponent, knowing that if they won both matches the Div 2 crown would be theirs, OS X took to the court. Baz setting with Nico opposite, Tony and Slawek through the middle with Chris and James on the outside. OS X started off very well and took an early lead, at 8-3 up Chris Todd started to serve and put in a 10 serve run to put OS X up 18-3. At this point OS X got a bit too confident and lost a few points to end the set 21-9. Going into the second set confident, OS X knew that Winchester would come out fighting. Some good play from all of the team with consistent serving and pick ups saw us run out 21-14 winners to take the game.
OS X reffed the second game of the night knowing that if Roke A beat Winchester Uni then the last match would be the title decider. Roke won the first set, but only just. Winchester then won the second. But Roke were too strong for them in the 3rd set winning it confortably to set up a great finale.
OS X took the the court with Toby coming on for Tony in the middle. The first set was very close all the way through OS X took an early lead but could not hold onto it, some sloppy play on pick ups let them down and they lost the set narrowly 21-18. The boys knew what was going wrong and took to the court for the second set determined to win the match. OS X played like they did in the first game, serving, pick ups and hitting was fantastic. Roke did not seem to know what hit them as OS X took the second set comfortably winning 21-11. Onto the 3rd and final set. Baz lost the toss again which was a good omen for the team as they have never lost a match when that has happened. Roke started serving in the 3rd set, OS X just carried on where they left off in the second set taking an 8-6 lead at the turn around. Another point to OS X saw Roke call a time out. Once back on the court OS X served out the set to win 15-6 and take the SADVA Div 2 Champions crown.
Well done to Chris Todd and Baz Newman who recieved the POTM awards against Winchester Uni and Roke A respectively.
Also well done to OS X for winning the first piece of silverware that OSVC have ever won in indoor volleyball at SADVA, after 4 years of trying.
